What should be used to seal underneath an External Door into garage?

Posted by Jane Sonntag, on
I will be replacing the external, side-entrance door into my garage in the next week. I have ordered the door and a fitter will fit it. There is no doorstep between the inside of the garage and the outside pathway, i.e the floor in the garage is the same height as the outside path. I therefore want to prevent ingress of water underneath the cill of the new door. What should the fitter use to ensure this? Should I expect them to install door on a bed of expanding foam or cement to achieve this? I will be using floor to store things on so want it to be bone dry. Thanks for your time.

Hi Jane if a new frame is being installed too and it has a cill you can bed it on silicone to ensure a watertight seal. If there's no cill you could use an aluminium threshold which can be fixed to the floor on a bed of silicone. Any good fitter will know this! Thanks. Ed
