New Bedroom Ceiling

Posted by Chris Gale, on
I’m looking to replace the existing ceiling in the main bedroom which is currently aertex over the old lath and plaster. The un-boarded section of the loft is directly above and the joists appear to be only approx. 1”by 1” will these be sufficent for the additional weight of an overboard?

Hi Chris are you sure you're looking at the joists as 1"x1" wouldn't support the lath and plaster ceiling let alone an overboard! Smallest joists are normally 3"x2" with a binder fixed at mid span for additional support, lath is normally 1" x 1/4" so maybe what you're looking at. It's probably best to get someone in to take a look . Ed
