I need advise on thermal movement causing cracking to exterior render

Posted by Linda Cooper, on
I have cracking to the exterior render to my property and have been informed by NHBC that it is caused by Thermal movement and shrinkage which is not covered in their policy, should I be concerned? Should I have my own report by a structural engineer carried out?

Hi Linda any cracking in render is a cause for concern as water can get behind the cracks and cause further damage, as for the NHBC warranty it doesn't surprise me as in reality they actually cover very little! Go back to the builder and see what they say, it's probably worth getting your own survey/structural engineers report. Ed
