My elderly mother has a upvc porch on the back of her house to combat draughts through the kitchen door, but in the last few years the floor has been getting very wet in winter & is slowly rotting & now smelling really bad. Not sure who installed the porch originally. I think my father laid the paving outside the porch in the 80s & I notice that water is pooling outside, although I believe at the time he would have sloped them away towards the drain there seems to have been some subsidence. Would this pooling be somehow entering under the porch floor as there probably wouldn't be a dpc but just relying on the seal between the upvc panels & the row of bricks or whatever they have been set on? There doesn't appear to be any dripping from the roof area, which I would've expected in recent really stormy wet weather if due to roofing problem. Can we solve this without having to deinstall the porch? The porch is under a metre from a retaining garden wall; should we have a buffering gravel strip between the building & the paving to allow water to drain, rather than paving right up to the porch?
