Garden stone wall being forced over by large tree

Posted by Andrew Miller, on
I am unsure whether it would be best to have a section of the wall rebuilt with a bridging lintel to accommodate the tree root or have a fence installed to replace the section being forced over. The stone wall is 6.5' tall and 30' long but the section being forced over is right beside the garden gate and covers only 4' in length. Which trade should I use? I have tried putting the job out to stonemasons but have had no reply and a joiner isn't going to carefully deconstruct the stone wall to erect a fence. Builder? Please help!

This all comes down to your budget, a fence is the cheap way to go or a more of a job would be to deconstruct clean stones and rebuild around tree and then also get tree cut back rather than take down, although if it's a tree outside your boundary then you need to contact the council or very high fines are put in place if you do cut a tree back belonging to the highways . But put an add out asking for a general builder and check his references on rated ,get two or three quotes , good luck.
