Damp kichen floor

Posted by Laura Dunkley, on
Old victorian terrace with off shoot kitchen at back. Recently had new Luxury Vinyl Tiles fitted on floor, which they smoothed off with a layer of concrete before laying. No damp proofing was used on floor. The floor has started to lift up due to damp levels but I dont know whats causing it. There is an open drain out side which the shower and guttering water goes into. Could this be the problem ? It is rendered outside but there is no gap between render and ground, could it be that ? Im unsure what kind of tradesman I need. Flooring company will not fix flooring until problem is solved. Help please!

Hi Laura The first thing I'd look at is wether there is an effective damp course under the concrete floor. In a property of this age there maybe none or only an ineffective membrane under the concrete. There are liquid membranes that can be used in a situation lik e this where the floor surface must be cleared to clean concrete. Martin
