Leaking Front Door

Posted by Clare Gibson, on
I have recently had a new wooden front door and frame fitted into a new porch. It faces Manchester from Sheffiels and takes the full brunt of wind and rain off the moors. It leaks! The wood has been weatherproofed, I've changed the letterbox to one where the flap opens outwards. There is a seal at the bottom of the frame. Water is puddling on the fllor, but not clear where it is coming from. Should there be another seal inside the frame? What else could it be? Please help!

Hi Clare any good quality external wooden frame will have a draught seal built into the rebate ( the stepped section where the door fits) to help prevent exactly the problem you are having. Driving rain is being driven between the gaps in the door and frame and then pooling at the bottom. The best bet is to fit a good quality seal externally on the frame. Hope this helps. Ed.
