Creaking & moving floor boards

Posted by Anna B, on
I have lots of creaking boards in my Victorian house and the boards in the bathroom move a lot underfoot. The boards themselves look okay - it feels as though they are not properly supported by the joists underneath. Who do I ask to do this job for me - a general carpenter or a flooring specialist? I get the impression that 'flooring specialists' tend to work more on sanding and finishing floors, rather than sub-floor work? Thanks

Hi Anna, no reason why a floorer cannot do this for you, securing them with screws is always better than nails, important that you investigate first underneath to make sure you are clear of all pipes and cables.hope this helps regards john select floors

Hi Anna A carpenter would do this for you. Do not attempt to put nails in it yourself without first investigating underneath to make sure there are no cables or copper pipes that you might damage. Screws are better than nails as you won't have to bang them in, potentially damaging things in the process. Plus they are much easier to get out should the need arise. JC
