Internal door replacement

Posted by Malcolm Hall, on
I am thinking about replacing 11 old internal doors with oak veneer panel doors. My problem is that only two of these doors are of standard size - one of 27" and one of 30". All the others are slightly undersized - varying from 29.5" to 29.75". Is this likely to cause a problem with fitting? I also have a small under-stairs cupboard door which is approx. 26.75" wide x 35" high. Will it be possible to fit a new door here?

Hi Malcolm you would use 30'' doors which would have to be planed to fit the slightly smaller openings, trim an even amount off each side to avoid losing the veneered edge of the door. The under stairs door would have to be a 27'' ( probably an oak flush door) door reduced in height and re-blocked on the cut end. Ed.

What would you like to do now?
