Remove bricked in fireplace

I have a house build in 1911. I want to turn dining room into kitchen as current kitchen very small. However the previous owners bricked in old fireplace and chimney breast which takes up about 3 ft of back wall. I want to take it all out make good. Is this a very big job, would it be less disruptive to build small extension on existing kitchen
