Removal of metal internal door frames.

Posted by Graham and Rachel Keating, on
I have 5 metal door frames in my 1955 built end terrace house, can these be removed and replaced with wooden frames and new doors and how would this be done?

Hi Rachel, Yes this can be done. You would need to get a Carpenter round to measure up the windows and door frames. He can then advise you on whether they can be purchased from a trade outlet or if they need to be made specifically. It would depend on the size. He should also advise you on the regulations regarding fitting new windows. "Fensa" A quick call to your local council and the "building control department" would give you the information you would need. Hope this helps, Joseph

Hi Rachel I can't see any reason why the metal frames can't be removed and replaced with timber frames, although it would be best to check that there are lintels above the frames before they are removed. It would probably mean cutting the frames to make it easier to get them out using an angle grinder or similar, you may even be able to see the fixings for the frame and remove them. Ed
