Fitting Wide Architrave

Posted by Graeme Charlton, on
Have removed old architrave and am now fitting wider architrave to match new skirting. The plaster sits proud of the doorframe so I am left with a 4mm gap between door frame and architrave (if flush against wall) or 4mm gap between edge of wall and architrave is fitted flush to door frame (plus edge of architrave is then angled not 90 degrees to wall). Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Hi Graeme there are 2 ways to do it: 1. Fit a 4/5mm make up strip onto the frame to take up the amount the plaster sits proud. When fixing to frame set it back 5-10mm from the front edge of the frame. 2. Rebate the back of the architrave ( plane a step section) 4/5mm to allow it to sit over the plaster that's sitting proud. Both tried and trusted methods. Ed
