Tradesman quoting on insurance work

Posted by Scott Bean, on
I have many jobs asking for quotes for insurance purposes. As I have to buy the contact details, is it unreasonable to charge the potential customer for the quote?

Hi Scott personally I avoid the jobs which say " quote required for insurance purposes" as very often the quote is just required to get a payout from the insurance with no work materialising from it or they want you to soak up the insurance excess cost in your quote. It's up to you if you want to charge for the quote but you need to make the customer aware of this before quoting, you could take the fee off the cost of the work if they decide to go ahead. Ed
