Plaster has become brittle in a patch behind the door in my kitchen

The plaster behind the door in my kitchen has become brittle and is falling off the wall. The patch is about 10cm above the floor. It is only small at the moment (4cm by 6cm) but it is getting worse. There has been a lot of condensation in the flat recently so I am wondering if it is linked?
