Musty smell, possibly from underneath floorboards?

Posted by Steve Conway, on
Hi. We have a very old/musty smell from our 1st floor 1930's build in Battersea. The property has wooden floorboards where the smell seems to be stronger (any clothes/bags placed on the floor smell awful), especially at the front of the house in one bedroom and the living room. There are no visible signs of mould other than in an old washing machine, nor replaced, yet the smell persists. The ground floor residents have not reported any damp in their ceilings. Please help, what could it be?
