Hi, does anyone know if it is compulsory to put up lining paper before wallpapering a painted wall

Hi tina. No it is not compulsory to lining paper walls. Normally lining paper is put up if the walls are of poor quality or if a client wants a really flat finish for their papering. If a wall has been painted, then possibly 'size' the wall first for better adhesion, but otherwise youdo not need to put up lining paper, only if the walls are bumpy, holes etc
