I've not painted the exterior of my wooden windows in years - now bare in places and have some cracks. Is it now a lost cause? And will now need replacing?

The timber will have to be checked over to see how far it has deterioated. This can be done by someone who has the know how. It is not always a lost cause as bare timber can be revived and decorated with appropriate materials and skill. The cost will obviously be greater than just standard decorating.
