Signs of damp...

Posted by Anthony Clifton, on
I am about to wallpaper a wall and have been aware of water marks on the wall... Despite ridiculous deluge (recently and over past 2 years), the water damage hasn't worsened or changed... CAN I therefore assume that it's old damage (before my time at the property) and that I can simply wallpaper over it?

Sounds like an old stain so should be fine, just spray some stain block on it first, let it dry then its good to go. George.

hello. good answer by richard the other way ive found that is a bit cheaper is to use a p.v.a.glue mixture to seal the wall prior to papering.

Hi Anthony. Yes it sounds like an historic leak which has left a damp stain. Probably a good idea to stain block it either using a dedicated Stain block or simply an oil based undercoat. Then hang the paper. Hope this is helpful. Richard
