Decorating a bedroom

Posted by Anne-Marie conroy, on
I have a bedroom which was painted a deep purple many years ago. At the weekend I painted white emulsion over the purple to lighten the colour. However when applying the second coat of white it began to bubble in places. When the bubbles were popped the white became like chewing gum and the white paint came off bringing with it the purple underneath. From a forum I was advised to try and scrape all the paint off (both layers) which is proving a nightmare as it is also bringing off the plaster board with it. It is a nightmare and I need a quick solution to this problem as I have visitors coming at the weekend. The plasterboard is in a terrible mess and I can't get both layers of paint off easily I have been at this for 4 days. Any quick fix solutions please?

Hi, do not scrape all layers off as it's harder and not necessary job just scrape where is bubbling and use wall filler to fill any damaged places but make sure the wall filler is fully dry before you paint. I guess you used a silk white emulsion and you probably didn't wait to be fully dry between coats, first coat of silk paint need to be fully dry before you apply the second one because if you go with the roller over the silk paint where is not fully dry it might pull off the layer underneath, open windows and doors after you apply the first coat to allow some air inside the bedroom. Will be easy for you to use just normal matt emulsion than silk paint, give a light sanding between coats with a 80grid sandpaper and you shouldn't have any problem. Hope this helps. Thanks
