Very old wallpaper

Posted by Catherine Rodgers, on
Hi my house was build in 1930 and the wallpaper on the hall, stairs and landing is very stiff and hard and looks like wood panels, and feels like wood. My neighbours asked me if I was going to remove the paper as they had the same on their walls and wanted to warn me, as the plaster came off their walls and said it was a mess. Over the years I have just painted it but now feel I should re-paper. Not sure what to do as I don't want to start and end up spending a fortune having to get the walls plastered and also I don't want the mess. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Catherine, The best way to get good walls without plaster is to have some very good quality think lining paper to cover and hide imperfections ! By no means as good a finish as a freshly plastered wall but saves huge amounts of work! As if original plaster I'm 99.9% sure that the plaster would need to be removed and boarding and plastering a very messy dusty job however a common aspect of most period property refurbishment. I can offer all services to complete your job . Regards Tim
