Are there any building regs re putting a new plasterboard ceiling up

Posted by terry mansfield, on
I have removed a plasterboard ceiling to have an electrician carry out some work, are there any regulations re putting plasterboard back up. I am going to use 12.5 board and have it skimmed, is this ok

Hi terry There are a few regulations to take into account 1. Is the ceiling to act as a 1 hr fire barrier 2. Are the lights you want fitting fire rated 3. Is the room in a house or a flat Starting with point 3 If the room is in a flat the ceiling should be fire rated to 1 hr this can be achieved by doubling up on standard 12.5 plaster board if you have already purchased materials if not fire board is recommended Point 2 For safety reasons if the lights are to be recessed then fire rated are best if it is a pendant/chandelier then this is fine Point 1 Depending on the age of the building will determine the fire rating of the room Hope this helps Regards Dave
