Is it standard to pay parking for tradespeople?

Posted by Karen R, on
I am being asked to pay for up to x3 all day permits for x15 days which is adding £250 to a quote which didn't originally include this cost.

Normally it's acceptable to provide permits for one main van and perhaps the others for one day so they can get there tools to the job three vans seems excessive

Hi Karen Some company's put those costs in the estimate but if the company your using did not tell them to pay there own parking that's there own daily expense not yours

It is normal to pay parking costs in addition to the contract price BUT this should have been indicated in the quotation or discussed beforehand . As you say , the extra cost is so high that it does affect the quotation considerably . Make a deal with the contractor as it was their neglect in the first place .

There is no standard as such, and depends on your contract. If parking cost / visitor permits where verbally discussed then this can form part of a contract. It does not need to be written. Did the tradesman raise this as a point with you at any time? If not, and there is no mention of any parking cost in quote then it could be argued that you can challenge it.

I assume the tradesperson is simply passing on to you a cost that is necessarily incurred in the course of the works. If they had been advised of the local parking situation before quoting, it would be reasonable to object.
