Floating Book-shelves

Posted by Ray Tostevin, on
We want to install one or more book shelves in our kitchen, including a floating book-shelf on a wall opposite our cooker, so can have cookery books close to hand. what advice would you have, are there any particular things we should consider. I don't want unslightly brackets spoiling the aesthetic of the shelf on the wall, hence the "floating" shelf idea. Hope you can help.

Hi Ray, Homebase and ikea sell a range of floating shelves in different finishes, maybe google it as well. Andy

Hi Ray, Floating shelves are a far more aetshetic looking and popular but to give the shelf any sort of support it either needs to supported at both ends either by walls or units or sides to the bookcase and needs full suport all along the back. You can get some nice brackets to support the ends which stop any books toppling off at each end. The ones you can buy off the shelf, pardon the pun, have no real support certainly not for books. This senario would realy need a tradesman to take a look, plus survey the wall its to be fixed. Hope this helps, good luck Ross
