Cold bedroom due to garage.

Posted by WENDY HAMMETT, on
Thanks for your suggestion, do you mean add some more rads in the garage or another one in the bedroom. The cold is coming through the garage ceiling and up into the bedroom floor. Thanks

Hi wendy the heating system and insulation of any new home should be more than adequate to heat up and prevent excess heat loss from the building you should therefore not need to add any further insulation or radiators. There must be an underlying problem with the insulation to the garage ceiling, contact your house builder to get it checked out it wouldn't be the first time it's been left out! Thanks.Ed

fit 50mm celotex in between joists in garage ceiling and 25mm celotex over whole ceiling in garage and tape up with insulation tape along joints this will create thermal barrier do not use polystyrene this is a fire hazard and fumes are extremely dangerous

Add another 1 In the bedroom, get the thickest fibreglass insulation & have a double panel convector installed. Preferably 1000x600. Will solve the problem.

Garry's right , do not increase the heating in the garage , just insulate the surfaces that are in contact with the areas that you want to keep warm . The thicker the insulation, the better the result . Contact a company called Minster , they can advise you on the right thickness .

Hi you can tack insulation boards onto garage ceiling & plaster or tape joints There's different thicknesses but 22 mm polystyrene with 9.5 boards would solve it Regards Gary

Hi Wendy I have had this before the only thing that we did was to insulate garage ceiling with 90mm celotex thicker better result and tape all joints and reboard celing It is the best way and most cost effective Thanks colin

The best way is to counter frame & get some 100 mm king span insulation board fixed underneath , ideally the joist centres should of been filled with rock wool prior to plasterboardimg
