Hi Mary You will have to prise the skirting off at one point. Pick a place that won't do to much damage to the plaster. Get a gemmy or crow bar about 1 metre long and force the thin end behind the skirting. Not the hooked end. Then pull it gently toward the center of the room. Place a pice of wood, or anything that will take the pressure as low down toward the skirting as you can, then push the crow bar back against the wall, using the block behind it as a fulcrum. The skirting should then pop off. If it doesn't then you have probably moved it far enough off the wall to use a saw without damaging the plaster. Hope this helps JC
