6 ft x 15 ft wood fence with gate.

Posted by Stuart Donaldson, on
We have been quoted £1600 to supply and install a 6 foot by 15 foot wooden fence with a single door on a back yard. There is a concrete floor where the fence posts will need to positioned. I think this is too much so I thought I would ask people who are more informed than I am. Is this the going rate or are they trying to con us. Thank you.

Hi there yes it does sound expensive , but without more details and looking at the job it's hard to say my advice is put the job up on rated people and get three quotes then you will get a good idea of the cost never pick the first quote if you have doubts

Yes way too much I want it earthquake proof for that. I think you should be looking at about 600 max even with a very ornate door and even if they need to drill through the 'floor' . After getting through the concrete most fencing cos will have a petrol auger which cut the post holes in minutes . By by reckoning that's 3 fence panels (cutting one down width with gravel boards posts, postcrete , gate . hinges etc can't see how materials can be more than 250.

Hi Stuart, Yes this does seem a little high to be honest. I work out our fencing at around £90 per bay so 15 would be 8 bays. Times that by £90 is £720 plus whatever the gate is costing shouldn't be more than about £1000 max. It will cost more though if there is an existing fence which needs taking down and disposing of. I hope this helps Regards Dwayne Busby's Landscapes
