Chimney Flue Inspection

Posted by Tom Cholewa, on
I'm purchasing a house and the home buyer report advises to get the open fire chimney flue inspected, what kind of tradesman would undertake this kind of work?

It depends on what's at the bottom of it. If it's a gas fire you need a gas safe registered engineer, if it's a log/multi fuel burner/stove you need a HETAS qualified engineer, if it's an open fire you don't need anyone except a chimney sweep to clean it out. A builder would be able to inspect the integrity of the structure but would not necessarily understand how to test it for leaks hence the above. Hope this helps. Alex
