Nesting birds at the edge of the roof

Posted by Tessie Gagliardi, on
How can i get rid of the nesting birds in our roof? They are nesting right up of our front door and their dirt is just splatting all over the front of the house. To whom should I ask for help?

Hi Tessie The majority of British nesting birds are protected under law. and it is unlawful, in anyway, to disturb a nesting bird. You haven't established whether the nests are actually under the tiles or, are being attached to the brickwork below the eaves. i.e. house martin. While I can sympathize because of the "mess" , personally, I think it is a small price to pay for the privilege of having birds nesting in/on my house. We have house martins, sparrows and starlings and they are an absolute joy.! Best wishes David

Please leave the birds alone for two or three weeks, by which time they will have flown. Then get someone to cement it up so they can't get in again. They are probably baby chick at the moment and I'm sure you would not want to be responsible for killing them. Give them a chance, it's hard enough for them with cats rats squirrels magpies and lord knows what after them. JC.
