Rotten skirting boards

Posted by Vicky Smith, on
The skirting boards on the external walls of my bedroom are rotten. Can I simply remove the rotten ones and replace with new skirting?

Hi Vicky it's probably a good idea to try and identify the reason for the skirting to have gone rotten, if it's an older property without cavity walls it may be done to damp penetrating the brickwork or render. Are there signs of damp on the plaster? It could even be a leaking pipe, so best check it out. Once problem rectified then yes it's just a matter of removing old and replacing with new. Hope this helps. Ed
