Remove internal wall

Hello,
We have a long hallway and would like to remove the wall on one side so as to open up the area a bit more. What is the best way to check whether the new internal floor-plan / layout would meet any building codes and/or require building regulations?
The wall does not appear to be load-bearing. It is simply forming the hall alongside the living room, and removing it would create a more open space. Is there any way to tell if it would be suitable for fire-code regulations?
