We have discovered that our oak floor is the lounge is lifting and have no idea of the cause. Who do we need to call to find this out?

Hi Maureen a flooring specialist or carpenter is probably best. Check that you haven't got a water leak ( check nearest radiator) that is affecting the floor. Is the floor recently fitted? They may not have left enough gap on the edges for expansion. Ed

Hi Maureen, Edward is correct - you really need a flooring specialist to get this checked out for you (preferably a wood flooring specialist). The 2 most likely causes are dampness, or lack of expansion gap around the floor. Particularly with a solid wood floor, the expansion gap is critical and should normally be around 15mm around the entire floor, no exceptions. If the gap has not been left at any point, you risk the floor lifting as it tries to expand. Moisture also makes wood swell, but you tend to see warping and cupping of the wood when moisture is involved. However, this can be thoroughly checked out by a specialist. Post it up on the job requests and some quality tradesmen will be in touch. Regards, Mark
