Removing mould from solid walls

Posted by Harnam Singh, on
Two years ago one of the bedrooms was reskimmed and painted, a vent had been skimmed over by the builder. Over time mould started to grow so i purchased a mould remover to clean all the mould, again over time the mould would appear in patches, so i purchased a dehumidifier and knocked at hole in the wall with a trickle vent. Whats the best solution to get rid of mould perminantley the wall is a solid wall with no external rendering.

Hi Harnam, The first thing you need to find out, is what's causing the mould. This is usually a lack of natural ventilation together with damp air. This usually happens in bathrooms where there is a water source. It's quite unusual to find it in a bedroom. If you have done this with the vent and it is now dry then you should be able to remove the mould the way you have done in the past. Then repaint with a mould resistant coating.Kitchen and Bathroom paint should do it. 2 coats would be best. Make sure you keep the room ventilated as much as possible. Open the window and door regularly. Joseph
