Load bearing wall - do I need a Structural Engineer or a Builder?

Posted by April Runciman, on
I want to make an arch through a load bearing wall on the ground floor of my house. I have been given conflicting advice about whether I need to get a Structural Engineer in or not?

Hi April you will need calculations for the loading on the steel/lintel that will be inserted in the new opening, the loading will determine the size of the steel/lintel. A structural engineer will carry out the calculations for you, the building inspector may want to see them to ensure it meets regulations. Ed
