Damp problem on chimney breast

What type of trade do I need to contact in order to diagnose cause of damp on ground floor chimney breast wall? Wall is dividing wall between pair of semi-detached houses. I do not know whether problem is damp coming up or a problem with chimney.
Fireplace has a flame effect gas fire basket. damp is to one side only and is showing above skirting board.
