Door fitting

Posted by Paul T, on
Is it unusual to fit external wooden doors for internal use? I am assuming the quality is better, will improve insulation and will last longer?

Hi Paul an external door is 44mm thick a standard internal door is 35mm ( unless they are fire doors44mm or metric sizes 40mm) so you may have a problem if you have rebated frames as they would not be wide enough to take the thicker door. If you have door linings with loose stops that are nailed in position they would need to be moved to accomodate the thicker doors, so it's not a straight forward change over. It would be a lot easier to fit good quality internal doors rather than the standard white 6 panel ones you can get nice clear pine or hardwood doors just depends how much you want to spend. Would workout alot cheaper than buying external doors and the fitting cost would be cheaper! Ed
