Split consumer unit

Posted by Paul Sotheron, on
I have just moved into a new house. It has a split consumer unit ( one main isolator, two rcd's) only one rdc is operational, covering all lights and power sockets both upstairs and down. I have done limited research which suggests this is not correct. Can you clarify please?

Hi Paul When you say only one works have you pushed the test button? It may be just stuck and need pressing a couple of times to release. Ideally yeah the circuits should be split across the 2 RCD's with upstairs/downstairs lights split and also up/down sockets. If all your circuits are actually connected to the one RCD this needs altering. Did you get an electrical inspection carried out prior to moving in? Might be worth getting an electrician to have a look at this for you and giving you advice as i cant actually see what your set up is Hope this helps Russ
