Clean the sandstone of any dirt and debris. Use a cloth instead of sandpaper to remove any loose particles; sandpaper could damage the delicate stone surface. Apply a coat of neutral-colored primer and allow it to dry according to the package instructions. Use a paint spray gun to apply the paint; this will ensure an even application if moved gradually across the wall and, more importantly, it will reach all the indents and spaces in the stone wall. Apply a coat of latex paint to the primed wall.
