Pull up bar - door frame too weak

Hi - we have a pull-up bar designed to fit on top of a door frame. Unfortunately the frames in our house are too weak to support it - we tried, and after a few sessions the door frame started to crack. Could you give any advice (to a DIY idiot) on how to fix the bar securely in some way. Thanks!
