Changing from a built in single oven, to a built in double oven.

Posted by Steven Fox, on
Hi, I have recently moved in to a fairly new build property which has a nice fitted kitchen by Roundel. However the oven is a single oven and not very good. I am wanting to change it for a double oven, however I am getting quite confused about how complex a job this is. I am not particularly good at DIY and obviously appreciate that I will have to get some more cupboard doors to accommodate the different sized oven. However, how big a job is it ensuring that the supporting shelf has the stability to take on the additional load and making sure that the electrical supply is suitable for the new oven / sorting that out if it isn't? What sort of tradesman should I be looking for to get to help with this sort of issue and any idea how much I should expect to pay? Many Thanks, Steven Fox

You would need a carpenter/ joiner for the cabinet alteration, and an electrician for the power. Most double ovens are around 4Kw, so you would need a dedicated 20amp supply from the fusebox to a new isolation switch for the oven...

What would you like to do now?
