Paint new skimmed wall

Do I use watered down paint 1st in white or my chosen colour & what is the mix 50/50 water & paint ? Or do I use PVA glue mix 50/50 ...its for conservatory walls recently skimmed. Thanks for your advice.

Hi Janet if you get your pva mix it half n half with water Mix the pre mixed pva in with your first coat it will be messy but should cover well with another 2 coats of un mixed paint The better quality paint you buy the better I would suggest a proper paint store rather than a diy shop You can also buy a ready made coating for new plaster I hope this helps M

I’ve been told by a painter don’t advise people to pva walls as it will take 5 coats of paint or more to get over it also 50/50 paint and water would be messy if your plasterer has left a nice Matt finish to the plaster your cheap white emulsion should stick fine as it will be soaked up by the plaster if your plasterer has over trowelled your wall leaving them shiny like a silky feel give them a light rub all over with a fine grain sand paper (120) to open it up again to receive the decoration
