Can you branch off an existing toilet connection

I only have one toilet in my house and it is down stairs and i want to make a small bedroom upstairs into a bathroom with a toilet in there , so can i branch off the down stairs loo to make a soil pipe to the new bathroom up stairs

Hi Alan, Yes you can. The only thing that may have to be introduce is an air admitance valve (AKA - Durgo or AAV) this is to ensure presure equlisation without blowing out seals. The Durgo should be higher than the spill over level of your highest appliance. There are building regs about this as your stack is tied into the same one as the other houses in your street so can affect the whole run so read up properly and ensure you do the right thing if attempting this yourself but hopefully this question is just for planning your idea prior to posting the job. Alan You can tee in to the 110mm pipe work & branch off to your second toilet, as long as you have an open vent to release the smells & stop pressure build up.
