Electrical check and final connection cost?

Posted by dave f, on
I am installing a new ring main into a currently unpowered part of the house along with a 10mm shower cable for downstairs shower and cables for 2 internal lights and 2 external. The cables run up to the loft from consumer box and are chased in then clipped across the beams, down through the airing cupboard and into the unpowered room, there are 9 double sockets on the loop, this will all be tested when complete but what will i be looking at cost wise for an electrician to look it all over test and make final connection to consumer box so its all legally certified?

Hi Dave, Legally, this is not really allowable as an electrician is currently only allowed to certify their own work. An option may be to contact your local authority building control office who could advise you further - An unregistered electrician can complete electrical works in a home but must have the work checked by a local authority building control electrician to make that work "legal". These rules are due to change later in the year though, allowing for a registered electrician to effectively "sign off" the work of others. Hope this helps - the industry rules are all over the place currently! Regards Carl Firmstone Stator Electrical Solutions Ltd
