Upgrade circuit box for modern solution

Posted by Tyrone Neill, on
I have a very old style circuit controller box which uses large outdated fuses (which are blowing due to a faulty shower system), If I sourced a new modern solution what would be the cost of fitting? The flat is fairly simple (in terms of electrics) and the current board only contains three switches Many Thanks

Well an EICR (electrical installation condition report) first to assess the quality of the installation to ensure a smooth board change, if there are any faults or problems that arise from the report then these will need to be fixed before the new board is installed otherwise the new board will not comply with the new regulations. Then the electrical board change will happen and the new one will be installed these can be more sensitive so the fault on the shower will need to be rectified. Once all is done you should receive a EIC (electrical installation certificate) which will say everything is fine. All of this can be done in a day to day and a half at a cost of around £500-£700 depending on how many circuits and which options you choose. Hope this is helpful James Wilkins Wilkins & Wilkins property services LLP

Hi Tyrone, it will be best to get up to three quotes from Part P registered electricians on rated people. They can source an appropriate consumer unit and advise you of any other necessary work such as improving the earth bonding of gas and water supplies, that may be necessary to comply with the current wiring regulations. Changing a consumer unit is notifiable to your local building control office, which a Part P registered electrician can do. You should get an installation certificate and a building control compliance certificate on completion.
