Electrics certificate

Posted by Caroline Huntley, on
I recently bought a house which had been rewired but I was not given a certificate covering the work. Is it possible to get the work retrospectively certified? and how much does it cost?

You can get an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) for the property. This comprises of a test of the circuits and an inspection of the fixed wiring where accessible and the wiring accessories (sockets, switches, consumer unit etc). Cost may depend on the number of circuits to be tested and where you live. I would expect to pay over £100 if it is done thoroughly.
