Hi Jan, Any Electrical work can be carried out by any competent or qualified person according to the law. Part P is only a requirement when the work carried out is notifiable to building control. The Part P Electrician will be a member of one of the competent person schemes run by a government approved body such as NICEIC, NAPIT or ELCSA to name a few, this means that undergo yearly checks to ensure the standard of their work meets a minimum level as well as that they hold the appropriate qualifications, insurances and their test equipment is in date. So the answer is for a simple light change or one for one simple swap the answer is no. However if you want a guarantee on the work and all the additional professional trimmings then yes. Kind regards, Matt

Hi Jan, carrying out minor electrical repairs and like for like replacements does not require notification to your local building control office and therefore an electrician registered on one of the Part P schemes is not necessarily required. All electrical work should be done to BS7671 (the wiring regulations) so it is important to choose someone who is competent to do your repairs. Choosing someone who is registered with NICEIC, NAPIT, ECA etc and who is regularly assessed does give you some assurance of their competence.

Hi Jan It is necessary to have at least part P qualified wlectrician as you will be sure that work will be done to current standarts etc. Unqualified DiY person won't carry out electrical test as he has not got a knowledge and is not allowed to do it by low. On iur website is a lot of fully qualified electricians so please post your job description regarding work what needs doing with min budget then 3 companies will contact you to give a quote. I hopethis will help Best regards Rafal
