My light fittings only partially work, do I need to replace them?

Posted by Stacey Tighe, on
I have 3 light fittings in my house that are only partially working (one upstairs and two downstairs) they all take multiple & different types of bulbs. On all of them some of the bulb fittings work but some have stopped working despite new bulbs being put in, one of the bulb fittings on the landing actually blows the bulb clean off, so we have to leave it without a bulb. I think the light fittings were put in when the house was built about 13 years ago but can't say for sure. Do I just need new light fittings put in or could it be a general electrical problem?

Hi Stacey, completely agree with Les it sounds more like a light fitting issue rather than general electrical problems. All fittings fail over time and this is hastened with removal and refitting. Regards, Matt.

Hi Stacey, if some of each light fitting is working but other parts of the same fitting are not working (even when you replace a lamp) then the problem is probably within the light fitting. It may be possible to repair the fittings but it may be worth considering replacing them. There is a good choice of energy saving light fittings available, which may save you money in running costs while still providing a good light.

Dear Stacey I would suggest to post your job description under electricity maintenance and repair as it could be a problem with circuit so electrician would be able to test it and rectify a problem. If you will post your job 3 companies will contact you to discuss details of a job. Best regards Rafal
