Can Dining room light fitting be repaired?

Posted by Edward Lewisohn, on
Can existing domestic light fittings be repaired? Specifically I have dining room & bedroom ceiling hanging lights, which take 8 halogen lamps: when replaced they either do not work or only work intermittently. Is this a fault which can be fixed?

Hi Edward. Most lights can be repaired, however if you spent less than £50.00 on the light it would probably be quicker, easier and cheaper to purchase a new fitting, as you would also get a new warranty on the item. From your post, it seems like the problem may lay in a transformer, that is either built in or located close to the fitting. Transformers have a thermal cut out funtion on them and if they are on their way out this function becomes more sensitive. If the Fitting does not have a transformer, then it will almost certainly be a loose connection. Hope that helps Many Thanks Gareth Jones Elmecom Installations.
