Treadmill motor is tripping my circuit breaker UPDATED

Posted by Terry Collier , on
Thank you for the replies to my previous question. Update: My treadmill still trips the circuit breaker in the consumer unit as my previous question. I tested the motor by disconnecting it from the circuit board inside the treadmill with a battery from a cordless drill and the motor turns and the walking belt moves. I tested the treadmill in various sockets around my house, and still the same thing happens. I also tried it at my neighbours house and it blows the fuse in the treadmill plug. I think it could be the control board? Is there anyway to test the board myself or anywhere in the Wigan area I could get it tested Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Hi Terry. I think you may have hit upon something. If the motor runs off a 12/24V drill battery then there must be a transformer somewhere to give you a DC current. This can either be remotely located in the machine, or an electronic transformer as part of the circuit board. either way try tracing back to a transformer and putting another one in its place. Transformers usually have a thermal cut out to stop fusing if they get too hot. if the cut out fails then the transformer can short out causing a short circuit in the mains. Hope that helps. if you want my contact details to discuss further please google Elmecom Installations. Many Thanks Gareth Jones Elmecom Installations
