Isolate solar panels

Posted by Dave Young, on
I have solar panels instaled which are I guess linked to my home consumer unit. I want to replace some of the plug socket face plates in my kitchen. Will isolating the electricity supply at the main switch on the consumer unit isolate both power supplys.

Dear Dave I would suggest to post job description on main website if you do not feel confident to do it your self. Once you've posted a job with us and had a local tradesman quote, you should have been sent an emailed link to his profile. From here, you can read previous customer recommendations and ratings. I hope this will help Best regards Rafal

Hello Dave, Welcome to the site. Best to get an on site survey/quotation done, this is a free service to you and you will get 3 quotes. Simply post your job onto rated people's site. You are not obliged to go with any of the quotes- but ever job that's posted is paid for by the relevant tradesmen.if they contact you that means they are interested in your job. If one of them are awarded the job then great news for you both. ratedpeople.com Regards Michael

Isolating the electricity supply from the main switch is not enough. There should be an isolator close to where the batteries are stored. Usually the solar panels are supplying power only to lighting but just to make sure, turn off both isolators and before disconnecting the sockets' plates check if there is power, with an voltage indicator.

Hi Dave, The solar panel installation should have an isolator on the AC side. Best to turn off both consumer unit red switch and solar isolator before doing any work. If your unsure, get a qualified electrician to sort this. They could then show you where to turn the supplies off so you know for the future.
