Hi Christine, Is it a brand new house? I wouldn't say its not safe no its just not really good practice but providing the socket has been fitted with a proper back box ie plastic not a metal type you put in the wall and is secure there is nothing really wrong with it.

Hello Christine, It's not ideal to have sockets there. I would get them checked. Put your job on rated people's site to get a free quotation and site survey. Regards Michael
